One evening before we left Nebraska, grandson Colt (16), came into where I was resting, lay down beside me, leading to a wonderful interchage. After asking several questions about the practical and what to expect, Colt asked, “Grandpa, are you looking forward to going to Heaven?” I told him of every Christian’s eagerness to go to Heaven and, at the same time, the desire to stay longer. I asked Colt if he’d known the Apostle Paul even wrote about it. I picked up a Bible and, together, we read Philippians 1:21 - 29: “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain…” Colt asked if I’d known that was in there. His next question was even better: “Has your condition changed the way you see that passage?” I assured Colt that I see that passage differently, but so many passages with greater appreciation for the truths each reveals.
As my condition deteriorates, I can tell you that each precious promise of Scripture dealing with here or there and how to get there has become more and more treasured.
