What is the Meaning of Baptism?
Baptism is the declaration of your commitment to Christ, a response of faith and obedience to the Lord.
It illustrates Christ's death and resurrection.
"By our baptism, then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead...so also may we live a new life." - Romans 6:4
It illustrates your identity as a Christian.
"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." - Gal. 3:26-27
Why Be Baptized by Immersion?
The word "baptize" means "to immerse". The Greek word baptize means "to immerse" or "dip".
Because Jesus was baptized that way.
"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John." - Matt. 3:13
Who Should Be Baptized?
Every person who believes in Christ and accepts His gift.
"Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized." - Acts 2:4
At Kaimuki Christian Church, baptism by immersion is a requirement for membership.
When Should I Be Baptized?
As soon as you have believed.
"Those who believed...were baptized...that day." - Acts 2:41
Please call one of the pastors of the church to set an appointment. The "proper" time is the moment you believe in Christ, when you have repented of your sins, and openly confessed the name of Christ. Following consultation with a pastor, your baptism can be scheduled.
At Kaimuki Christian Church, we wait to baptize children until they are old enough to believe and understand their decision to follow Christ. If you're interested in a Baby Dedication where parents are dedicating themselves to raising their children in the ways of the Lord, we do so in an individual ceremony or sometimes as a group in a worship service. Please contact one of our pastors for more information. |
